ROUTES & BRANCHES
February 4, 2012
Scott Foley

Great to see Patterson Hood and friends supporting an effort to keep downtown Athens, GA independent.  On his new single, "After It's Gone" the Drive-by Trucker collaborates with members of Widespread Panic, REM's Mike Mills, Lera Lynn, Futurebirds and more on a track that actually stands as one of his better recent cuts.  Go here to stream the video and to play Who's Who. And to download the song.

File Dr Dog's fine new release with other rootsy indie stuff from Blitzen Trapper, Dawes, Delta Spirit, Megafaun, et al.  Like a slightly more sober Deer Tick, perhaps?  With prominent barrelhouse piano, fuzzy guitars and a slightly psychedelic sensibility, you might also compare Be the Void to more recent releases by Marah.  Like several of these other bands, you likely won't trip across Dr Dog on many other programs of our type. Consider yourself lucky!

Finally, working hard to arrange a last minute in-studio set with Greensky Bluegrass for this Saturday's Episode of R&B.  If the gods will it, you'll hear some chat and some live cuts at the top of the 4:00 hour.
