ROUTES & BRANCHES
November 17, 2012
Scott Foley

This busy week found me behind the mic no fewer than 4 times, owing to holiday vacations and such.  For me, this is fine, of course.  To date, I've navigated each program without duplicating an artist, departing the station with way too much good music that merited sharing.  Apparently, this is one of the few things in life I don't get tired of, so I'll be back on Saturday for another chance to get this R&B thing right.

Sure, formal submissions to KRFC have slowed to a virtual crawl over the last few weeks.  This just gives me a chance to pick up on a couple other quality releases I've overlooked during the past months.  This Episode, we commence our journey through a new Jesse Dayton tribute to the music of a man he portrayed on stage, the great Kinky Friedman.  Another legend, Bobby Bare, returns to CD with Darker Than Light, a collection of covers from everyone from Dylan to U2, several from the folk tradition.  The man himself adds two new compositions to the mix.  No matter what Bare is singing, his voice is one of our genre's classic instruments.

Best of all, at the time of this writing (yeah, I'm late again) we're on the far side of Thanksgiving.  Fair warning, I'm planning to unleash the Christmas beast for this weekend's Episode.
