Suddenly, we're rushing headlong into Continental Drifters season. The under-heralded supergroup featured contributions from Peter Holsapple, Vicki Peterson, Susan Cowsill and many more. The essential Omnivore Recordings has set a September 13 release date for a retrospective, White Noise & Lightning. This roughly coincides with a new book of the same name from Sean Kelly via Cool Dog Sound. Kelly has also co-produced We Are All Drifters, a 25-song tribute featuring contributions from Rosie Flores, Caitlin Cary, Steve Wynn, and more. Head to Bandcamp to stream the first advance single from Debbi Peterson and Minus 5.

The classic lineup of legendary punk/rockabilly outfit X releases what's rumored to be their final record this week, Smoke & Fiction (Fat Possum), accompanied by quite a thorough final tour. Twangville features a brief interview with Exene Cervenka (plus, Routes & Branches will be publishing an appreciation of the new record next Tuesday).

Waxahatchee released her fantastic Tigers Blood (Anti) back in late March, a collection that will certainly compete among a handful of rarified records for our year-end favorites. This week, Clash caught up with Katie Crutchfield for an interview.

We shared an appreciation of Red Clay Strays' new Made By These Moments just last week. Now NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday has touched base with the band for an interview.

One of our favorite YouTube channels comes from the phenomenal Amoeba Music stores, who feature a weekly segment called What's In My Bag. Each episode highlights one artist who is allowed to peruse the store's sprawling collection in search of a bagful of their favorite and most influential LPs. This week was devoted to selections from the great Brittany Howard

Following a short and enigmatic series of hints, the newly formed supergroup, Hard Quartet has been unmasked. GQ features a reintroduction to the quartet, which features Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney from Superwolf, guitarist Emmett Kelly, and drummer Jim White.

Just a couple weeks ago,  AJ Lee & Blue Summit shared City Of Glass (Signature Sounds), one of the year's most celebrated bluegrass albums. This week, No Depression visited with Lee about the challenges of being an Asian American bluegrass artist.  You'll also want to take a look at an appreciation from Grateful Web

British psych/folk/pop wizard Robyn Hitchcock has released both a book and a CD focused on the year 1967. Uncut visits with Hitchcock, who selects his favorite songs from the year. Telegraph has published an account of the book, 1967: How I Got There and Never Left

Jack White's Third Man Records store in Nashville recently began slipping unmarked copies of a new LP into the bags of customers. Copies were also handed out at a recent live show. Stereogum tells the story of No Name, which will be available for purchase and streaming the old fashioned way on Friday, August 2.

Finally, we'll visit with A Routes & Branches Guide To Feeding Your Monster, our all encompassing release calendar for our kind of music. On the heels of their 2023 City Of Gold gem, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway will be sharing a new EP. From Nonesuch, Into the Wild features the bluegrass act's take on tunes originally by Olivia Rodrigo and Jefferson Airplane, alongside a couple originals (Sept 20). Also from Nonesuch, comes a collection from the newly signed guitarist and composer Yasmin Williams. Acadia (Oct 4) features guest spots from Aoife O'Donovan, William Tyler, Dom Flemons and more. Benjamin Tod and Lost Dog Street Band just released Survived in April. Tod returns with a honky-tonk inflected solo set, Shooting Star, on October 18. Following a too-long hiatus, Danny & the Champions Of the World have announced their long-awaited new project. Loose Records has set an October 18 street date for You Are Not a Stranger Here. Onetime member of Our Native Daughters, Amythyst Kiah has prepared her follow-up to 2021's Wary + Strange. October 25 is Rounder's release date for Still + Bright. Susto frontman Johnny Delaware will be dropping a new solo LP on November 1. Para Llevar will appear courtesy of New West's Normaltown imprint.
