ROUTES & BRANCHES
October 27, 2012
Scott Foley

This week I sat down with a year's worth of playlists from my Thursday Morning Mix and Routes & Branches broadcasts since the beginning of January.   I set up four lists this year:  My favorite R&B albums, favorite R&B songs, favorite TMM music and favorite Colorado music.  Then I pored over the lists, dropping any likely candidate onto the appropriate page.  My Colorado list is actually nearly done, but the others still boast 35-40 candidates which I'll have to whittle down to 20 or so by the time I air my favorites shows.  This year, there'll be four of them:

December 15 - favorite Routes & Branches songs
December 27 - favorite Thursday Morning Mix music
December 29 - favorite Routes & Branches albums
January 3 - favorite Colorado music (Thursday Morning Mix)

This year, make sure you put the dates on your calendar and join the party(ies).  The other option is a site called DAR.fm which listeners can use to record just about any radio program streaming online.  This means you can simply register (upper right corner) and sign up to record Routes & Branches and/or Thursday Morning Mix should you be called away from your radio or computer.  While nothing beats a live, seat-of-your-pants show, DAR.fm will save these shows as you record them, at your beck and call as your schedule allows.  It's like having me in the closet and then releasing me to sit in your living room playing my favorite music.

Today, it's just plain old good music.  A fancy new live disc from Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, demonstrating the singer and guitarist's undeniably soulful chops on a set of tunes from his solo work, DBT songs and a smoking cover of Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane".  We also dig further into the new, red-dirt-rocking collection by Cody Canada's Departed.
