About three weeks from now, we'll be sharing our first guesses for our favorite records for the first third of the year. In the midst of nonstop festival and concert announcements, we'll carve out some time to look back at what's been a steady year for our kind of music. If you'd like a primer on what's been released and what's to come in 2022, you could do worse than click on A Routes & Branches Guide To Feeding Your Monster. Hot on the heels of her ACM Entertainer of the Year win, Miranda Lambert has announced the follow-up to her Marfa Tapes project. Palomino (Vanner, Apr 29) features collaboration with Jon Randall, B-52s and Luke Dick, and offers a cover of a song originally by Mick Jagger. Last year Black Keys paid tribute to their forebears with Delta Kream. Due on May 13 via Nonesuch, Auerbach and Carney will return to originals with Dropout Boogie. Following some lineup adjustments, Banditos will be sharing their first record since 2018's Visionland. The band's third project, Right On (Egghunt) lands wherever music matters on May 20. John Doe lands on the burgeoning Fat Possum label for his next collection. Fables in a Foreign Land (May 20) is reportedly a concept album, featuring collaboration with Shirley Manson, Los Lobos and Exene. Finally, back in 2017 we boldly declared Lee Bains III + Glory Fires' Youth Detention our favorite record of the year. Produced by David Barbe, their next volley will arrive in the form of Old-Time Folks (Don Giovanni, Aug 5).
