ROUTES-cast SEPTEMBER 4, 2022

ROUTES & BRANCHES
featuring the very best of americana, alt.country and roots music
September 4, 2022
Scott Foley, purveyor of dust

Here at R&B HQ, in Our Faire Square State, August has proven to be a gentler month meteorologically, with few temps venturing above the ninety-degree mark (the melting point for this blogger). The past thirty days once again brought a wealth of quality songs, stuff to feed our criminally short musical attention span. While it's never easy to commit to just ten standouts, we manage to do it every month. And we call it:

WHAT's SO GREAT ABOUT AUGUST?!!

1. Tenci, "Two Cups" A Swollen River A Well Overflowing  (Keeled Scales, Nov 4)
2. Margo Price, "Been To the Mountain" single  (Loma Vista, 22)
3. Shannen Moser, "Paint by Number" The Sun Still Seems to Move  (Lame-O, Sep 30)
4. Early James, "Real Low Down Lonesome (ft Sierra Ferrell)" Strange Time to Be Alive  (Easy Eye, Aug 19)

--------------------------

We'll also take a moment to identify just five of the many forthcoming records we've added to A Routes & Branches Guide To Feeding Your Monster. Please give yourself a point or two if you've expected Iron & Wine to release a four-song covers ep of Lori McKenna songs. LORI lands on shelves September 16 courtesy of Black Cricket. Ours was one of a handful of blogs covering Tommy Alexander's very good 2020 Waves release. We're pleased to share his October 28 date for Feelings, on his new Fluff & Gravy label home. That same day, we're happy to welcome back one-time groundbreaking red dirt country act Great Divide. Mike McClure and friends will debut Providence on October 28. White Buffalo has quietly shared LP-after-LP of original hard roots music. We've circled November 11 on our release calendar in recognition of the arrival of Year of the Dark Horse, on Snakefarm. And while all this stuff is great, nothing tops this week's announcement that Caitlin Rose has set a date for her first full-length in nearly a decade. Please ask for November 18 off from work, to give yourself time to celebrate the arrival of CAZIMI (Pearl Tower).
