Here at R&B HQ, we were reminded recently that we're approaching the end of the first quarter of the Twenty-First Century. Of course, this necessitates the creation of a new favorites list (likely into the New Year). For today, we've added some new stuff to A Routes & Branches Guide To Feeding Your Monster, to consider for our half-century list. Back in 2008, multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott shared an album's worth of covers called Modern Hymns. He'll be issuing an updated version of the long out-of-print collection, New Modern Hymns, on October 11, featuring contributions from Alison Krauss, Mary Gauthier, Tim O'Brien, and more (Here Records). There's no reason you should know that we harbor a soft spot for the Bangles, especially their 1984 All Over the Place. Lead Bangle Susanna Hoffs will be issuing a full album she recorded twenty-five years ago, but never released. The appropriately-titled Lost Record will be found on October 18 (Baroque Folk). The ever-reliable Omnivore Records label is planning an expanded edition of Uncle Walt's Band's Thought You'd Never Ask: The Complete 1975 Armadillo Records Recordings. Featuring many unheard tracks, the collection revisits the short-lived supergroup of David Ball, Deschamps Hood, and Walter Hyatt (Nov 1). The 3Sirens label (partially owned by The Grahams) will be releasing a compilation of 90s covers to raise awareness for the Gun Safety Support Fund. Due December 13, Every Possible Way includes contributions from Liz Cooper ("Bittersweet Symphony"), Lucius, and more. Finally, fresh off their recognition as AMA's Duo and/or Group Of the Year, Larkin Poe have planned a new project. Bloom will see the light of day on January 24 (Tricki-Woo).
