We've mentioned previously how important the music of Alejandro Escovedo is to R&B, how the Texas legend has managed to maintain his sharp edge from his early punk and rock days with Rank and File and True Believers through his essential solo work in the 90s, and into his recent classics like 2016's Burn Something Beautiful. While Echo Dancing, his release from earlier this year, features no new songs, the collection takes a brilliant approach to reimagining stuff from throughout his long career. Escovedo has never rested on his proverbial laurels, even as he struggled with a medical diagnosis, even when other peers were embarking on legacy tours or producing music that failed to meet the standards of their earlier work. It could be argued that his oeuvre since the turn of the century is as impressive as his first several records. Alejandro Escovedo's career bears vital testament to the reach and range of our kind of music.
